Notes:

Written on the sleeve of the record: Jazz has always represented freedom, the words go together like coffee and cream, light and dark, yin and yang. There is no doubt that if the true pioneers of Jazz: Monk, Parker, Gillespie, Mingus, Coleman, Davis and Coltrane were around today they would be using all the available technology to fuel their flights of freedom into pure expressionism. Purists can holler, pilgrims can turn away and afficonados can cut in disgust at the new found interest in Jazz if they must, what they won't do, however is stop people delving deep into it's levitation and sucking up on all that inspiration. What you have in your hands is an album that makes no claims to be anything other than a cross-representation of what Jazz has inspired at the closing chapter of the Twentieth century. I could easily say that Jungle, Drum 'N' Bass and Leftfield aesthetics that go into making these tracks are only fractionally removed from the toughts behind some of the eternal classics. I'm not there to make grand statements though... There is a quote from Jean Debuffet that sums up the thought behind this compilation. "Jazz does not come and lie in the beds we make for it. It slips away as soon as it's name is uttered. It likes to preserve it's incognito. It's best moments are when it forgets it's very name..." I suggest you forget names for the duration of this journey, the zeitgeist of the experimentation is upon us. Let us welcome it with open hearts, minds and ears.
