Fifty First Recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in London called State 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for State 51's existing clients. State 51 was the go to Studio for the likes of X-press 2, Sharp, Amalgamation Of Soundz. The engineers we worked with included Mark Woolford, James Brown, James Reynolds & Mark Yardley. Fifty First Recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of UK Garage music. We produced and released music in the 90's, for over 7 years, with the likes of Tuff Jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as Konnect / Test Press / Unda Vybe / Spread love / Tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

Tuff Jam aka Karl Tuff Enuff Brown & Matt 'Jam' Lamont (started out with James Brown as engineer and later used Mark Yardley & James Reynolds). Experience was the first production released on 51st featuring favourite vocalist Jackie B and was licensed for single release across the world and various compilations.

Klubb Connection was one of many names Tuff Jam used to release records under. Keep Holdin' was first released on Todd Edwards' label I Records from New Jersey.
Ty Holden is a House & Garage DJ and a friend of the studio who started using one of our engineers James Reynolds; Heaven was the result. Together they built up a name as London Connection remixing for others through 51st Management.

Stanton Warriors is Mark Yardley (engineer/producer) & Dominic Butler (who came up from Bristol through a friend of the studio owners). First release was Determined. They have stayed together ever since making a solid name for themselves across the world Dj-ing and live gigs.

Deeper Cut is again Mark Yardley with a then 51st employee David James. Together they produced Catch This Feeling with a more house vibe. Later they produced some fantastic songs under the name Alaska Soul. (State 51 & 51st offices were based in the Alaska Building in London SE1)

Antonio is also known as Matt Antonio. Closer is a fantastic 2 step UK Garage tune, with a great saxophone riff, and a female vocal repeating the lyric: Don't you know I need you closer?, that still sounds great today. One of those tunes that causes people to come up and ask what it is whenever they hear it played.

Tuff Jam Set It Off (Un-released mix) was an early release in 51st history and was remixed by Mike Spencer (who also worked out of the Alaska Building and released a fantastic Break Beat track for 51st under the name 'Spike Project'. Mike is best known for his pop successes with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Jamiroquai, Rudimental, Ellie Goulding. His productions have Topped charts worldwide, achieved numerous multi-platinum sales awards, MOBO and Brit award wins as well as Mercury Prize nominations.
Divide Intervention produced this fantastic version of the classic Jolly/Harris/Jolly track Shelter Me. It was released on 51st with garage mixes including this version by 'Studio Pressure' (Miles Fontaine (Jeremy Sylvester) & Dominic B (Stanton Warrior). It was also later released on Konnect with house mixes.

Dub Monster aka Scott Garcia & Ray Hurley (Engineered by Mark Yardley @ State 51) produced a fantastic 4 track EP with Deep Innit as one of the favourites. At around the same time, Scott Garcia had also produced the classic 'A London Thing' with a Dub Monsters track on the B-side.

Absolute feat TK was DJ Milian & Dave Deller who have between them and separately produced some fantastic garage classics. I wonder if I take you home, a classic Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam house track from the 80's was given a London garage make over. This should have done a lot better at the time and is probably ready for release again.
Frances James was a well known DJ and face around London from the late 90's onwards and produced a number of tracks for 51st with releases on AM:PM and Matt Lamont's Solo Recordings label. This remake of Mtume's classic Juicy Fruit still cuts it. The mix on the album is Peekays 'High Rollin mix'. (Peekay is another DJ/Producer from the 51st stable).
